Matariki

Week 3 activity 10: So I had to write a short summary of the book. What was it about? I have to try to summarise the story in 6-8 sentences.

What was easy was nothing.
What was hard was everything.

Here is my work I hope you enjoy

  1. Kia ora Kohe-Lee,

My name is Rachel and I am working with the Summer Learning Journey programme this year. It is great to see that you have come back this summer to join us. Welcome back!

I really enjoyed reading your post today about Matariki. it is clear from this activity that you listened to the story and then worked hard to put it into your own words. Way to go!

I must admit that I didn't know all of the details about the story of Matariki until I designed the programme this year. Were you familiar with the story of Matariki? I really love the middle of the year and the Maori new year as my son, Aronui, is born on July 4th and we often celebrate his birthday during this special time of year.

I hope that you and your family are enjoying the special summer break and, in particular, this special day of Christmas. Our family is about to sit down to Christmas lunch and I can't wait! We are going to have roast turkey. It is one of my all-time favourite meals as I grew up in Canada where we usually have turkey for Christmas. Yum!

Wishing you and your family a very special holiday season and a great start to 2019.

    Warm wishes,

    Rachel :)

    2. Hi Kohl-lee,

Thanks so much for writing back! We did enjoy our Christmas turkey, I must say. It was a real treat and it reminded me of growing up in Canada. There are couple of different foods that immediately remind me of a specific place and a specific time. Turkey is definitely one of them and so are scrambled eggs. My grandma used to make the most amazing scrambled eggs for me.

Do you have any special foods that you just love or that people make for you that remind you of them?

Hope that you are having a great week-end!

      Bye for now,
      Rachel :)
